If there's no pictures it didn't happen
Wow! How could I have completely forgotten to take pictures??!!
Today we met up with friends and went to the beach. They are from out of the area. They have German Shepherd who has some issues.
There's no way to know if this was who she was always going to be or whether it's due to circumstances, but she is painfully insecure and has a lot of fears with people she doesn't know well. She will even fear nip at people.
They got her as a puppy right as COVID locked everyone down. So she got very little socialization as a pup. Would she have been different had that not happened? No one will ever know.
Anyway, as they arrived and let her out was a little bit nervous. Booker doesn't read social cues well at all. So he immediately tried to jump on her head and which led to her barking and alternately charging at him with her lip raised and running away.
Nothing escalated and fortunately, due to Booker's lack of reading cues, he didn't really get that she wasn't happy and thought it was a game, which prevented him from getting upset.
We got to the beach and I kept Booker on the leash for a while to make sure that he wouldn't start pestering her again. Sisko, of course, was way more interested in interacting with us humans, and I think his clam presence helped.
We picked our spot away from others and just let them go. She was a bit nervous still and wanted to hide behind and "protect" her parents at the same time which led her to snap at Booker a few times when he was near them.
As long as they weren't really getting snotty with one another, I figured it would be best to let them go ahead and sort it out themselves, so we pretty much ignored them as we talked.
We then had lunch and I handed out the chicken feet I had brought for all 3 of them and they happily laid down and all attended to their treats.
The rest of the day went extremely well. We had to pick up and head back mid-afternoon to get home in time to clean up before heading out to our dinner reservations. As we were picking things up, all dogs were walking along the shoreline wading in and out of the water.
I commented that if they had about 2 more hours, they would both be acting like normal dogs!! But all in all I was pretty proud of Booker who has in the past acted like an out of control maniac around other dogs. And the more socialization she gets with welll adjusted dogs, especially calm ones like Sisko, the better!
