Run Cancer run 2025

As we do every year, we are participating in the Paws 4 Potter virtual walk before the in-person event the first weekend of October. It's such a good cause.  I can remember SO CLEARLY that terrible morning when I realized that Chakotay had cancer.  He, Archer and I had gone for a run that morning and he was fine as always.  Later that morning I was sitting next to him and petting him and I petted his nick and I realized there was a lump there.  I panicked and felt the other side and and there was anotehr lump on the other side as well. My blood felt like ice as I knew immediately that he had lymphoma and I burst into tears.  As I've mentioned here before we enrolled him in a clinical trial, but he only survived a couple of months.  The only solce is that while he slowed down and appeared tired, he was happy and didn't seem to be in any pain right up until when he left us. So this time of year, every time I walk and run I think of him - #runcancerrun20...

Both Sisko and Booker hate having their pictures taken. After our run yesterday I asked Marc to take a quick pic.  They looked everywhere except at the phone. See?! But if I'm sneaky sometimes I can get a good pic.  Yes, in these they aren't looking at the camera, but still.... And today I actually got a full frontal (🤣🤣🤣)

When you are not as popular as your Boxer

Today's run was, as usual, at our favorite trail.  But now that it's not as warm out, the trail was MUCH busier than normal. There were a lot of runners, many bicyclists, and by far, walkers of all types.  Everything from moms with strollers to power walkers with their earbuds in, to families with young kids, and even ruckers with full backpacks. As we ran, I counted 11.  Yes 11 people who made a comment about Booker being cute, an amazing runner, and/or what a good boy he was. You know how many people said anything to me?  ZERO.  🤣🤣🤣

The presoak

This morning we woke up to cool sunny skies.  The night before they had called for morning rain, but the radar was mostly clear. I decided it was a perfect morning to take the boys for a run and get back early enough to give them a much needed bath before chilling out for the opening weekend of football. We cruised for the first 3 miles and turned around to head back and I heard a huge crack of thunder north of us.  We made it another half mile when the skies darkened and then opened up.  Fortunately there was no more thunder or lightening, but it poured. We made it home but were drenched.  I took that as mother nature being kind enough to give the dogs a presoak. They were more than happy to get into a warm shower and enjoyed the blueberry facial and total body scrub down.  And they absolutely love being towel dried.  Then the weekly nail trim and p aw protection balm .  I swear I could hear them thinking "FINALLY" when I got them some moist fo...

That look

This morning I had a race I was signed up for.  Unfortunately, this race does not allow dogs.   I tried to explain this to the dogs as I got ready.  They were so excited as I was putting on my running clothes. Of course, they assumed these clothes meant they were going. I got the look from both of them as I left - the look of betrayal that they weren't going. Fortunately they don't hold grudges and were delighted when we got home. But guilt got the best of me, so when we had to head out to Walmart, I decided to take them on a quick run. So today was a twofer for me and they got in some exercise. And when we got home they were rewarded with these chews that they absolutely LOVE.
